Plant Care & Characteristics

Light Requirements: Full sun to partial shade. It produces the best fall color when planted in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day).

Water Requirements: Moderate to high. This tree prefers moist soil and tolerates boggy soil. It is a good choice for low spots in the yard and tolerates "wet feet".

Drought Resistance: Low to moderate. It is not drought-tolerant when young and requires regular watering. Once fully established, it can withstand short dry spells, but prolonged drought can cause leaf scorch.

Soil Type:  Adaptable. Thrives in rich, well-drained, acidic soils. It also tolerates clay soils and wet conditions. This tree is sensitive to alkaline (high pH) soils, which can cause the leaves to turn yellow.

Deer Resistance: Good. Red maples are generally not a preferred food source of deer.

Seedless: Maple Brandywine is a male clone and it produces no seeds making it a cleaner tree for front lawns and driveways.
