Lime Thornless Key, also known as Mexican Lime or West Indian Lime, is a highly prized selection of the classic Key lime that offers all the iconic, intense citrus flavor of the traditional variety without the sharp, needle-like thorns. Originating as a natural bud mutation, this evergreen shrub or small tree features a dense, spreading canopy with glossy, aromatic green leaves and completely smooth branches, making routine pruning, maintenance, and harvesting completely pain-free. In early spring, it produces massed clusters of small, five-petaled white blossoms that fill the air with an intensely sweet, orange-blossom scent. In frost-free climates, it will continuously bloom and set fruit intermittently throughout the entire year.

PLANT CARE & CHARACTERISTICS
Light Requirements: Full Sun (Requires 6–8+ hours of direct sunlight daily; needs supplemental grow lights if overwintered indoors).
Water Requirements: Moderate; deep, regular watering when top 2 inches of soil feel dry; requires excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
Drought Resistance: Low to Moderate (Requires consistent moisture for steady flowering and fruit retention).
Soil Type: Well-draining sandy loam, citrus potting mix, or gravelly soil; pH 6.0–7.5; highly intolerant of waterlogged or heavy clay soils.
Deer Resistance: Moderate to High (Aromatic citrus leaves are generally avoided by deer).
Pest / Disease Resistance: Susceptible to Citrus Canker, Scale, Citrus Mealybugs, Spider Mites (especially indoors), and Phytophthora Root Rot if overwatered.
