Description: Sweet fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a flowering herb and vegetable with a sweet, anise-like flavor. It is an upright branching plant with hollow stems. Leaves are bright, feathery green with needle-like segments. Flowers are small bright yellow that bloom in the summer. It's native to the Mediterranean and is used in cooking, medicine, and aromatherapy.

Growing conditions: Sweet fennel prefers full sun, but can tolerate some shade. It is drought tolerant but grows fuller with regular water. It prefers neutral to slightly acidic soil and can be started from seed in the spring.
