🌱 Planting Installation
The 'Red Cascade' Rose is technically classified as a miniature climbing rose, but it is most famous for its ability to function as a ground cover or "carpet" rose. It is a powerhouse of a plant, known for its sprawling habit and its ability to produce a literal "cascade" of tiny red blooms. It is a prolific bloom cycle repeater. It blooms in massive waves from late spring all the way until the first hard frost.

Foliage: Deciduous to Semi-Evergreen |
Leaves: In warmer climates (Zones 8-9), it may keep its leaves year-round. The leaves are very small, glossy, and dark green, which provides a beautiful backdrop for the red flowers. Flowers: It produces hundreds of tiny, 1-inch, double-petaled dark red roses. They grow in large clusters and have a classic rose shape, looking like miniature versions of florist roses. It has a very light, mild fragrance—it is grown more for its visual impact than its perfume. |

Plant Care & Characteristics
Light Requirements: Full Sun. Requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight to bloom profusely. In partial shade, the plant will still grow, but it will produce fewer flowers and may be more susceptible to mildew.
Water Requirements: Moderate. Like most roses, it prefers a deep watering at the base of the plant once or twice a week. It does not like to sit in soggy soil, but it also shouldn't be allowed to go bone-dry for long periods.
Drought Resistance: Moderate. Once established, it is surprisingly tough and more drought-tolerant than traditional Hybrid Tea roses, but consistent moisture is required for the best flower production.
Soil Type: Well-Drained & Rich. It thrives in loamy soil amended with compost. It prefers a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0).
Deer Resistance: Low. Like almost all roses, deer find the tender new growth and flower buds delicious. If you have a high deer population, you will need protection or repellent.
The Bloom Cycle: It is a prolific repeater. It blooms in massive waves from late spring all the way until the first hard frost.
The "Thorny" Truth: Despite the tiny size of the leaves and flowers, 'Red Cascade' has many small, sharp thorns. This makes it an excellent "security" ground cover to keep people or pets away from certain areas, but you should wear heavy gloves when pruning it.
Landscape Versatility: This is a "problem-solver" plant because of its flexible growth habit
Ground cover: If left to sprawl, it will knit together to form a dense, thorny carpet that suppresses weeds and covers slopes.
Hanging Baskets/Walls: If planted in a tall pot or at the top of a retaining wall, the canes will "cascade" downward, creating a waterfall of red.
Climber: If given a small trellis or pillar, you can tie the canes upward to create a 6-to-8-foot vertical display.
