Plant Care & Characteristics
Light Requirements: Full sun. They require at least 6 hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight daily. Loblolly Pine Trees have very little tolerance for shade and will lose their vitality if it is crowded by larger trees.
Water Requirements: Moderate to High. Loblolly pine trees thrive in moist to wet soils.
Drought Resistance: Moderate. While these trees prefer moisture, they are surprisingly adaptable and can tolerate periods of moderate drought once established.
Soil Type: Highly Adaptable. Loblolly Pines prefer acidic or sandy soils. It is particularly well-known for its ability to grow in heavy clay and poorly drained "wet" spots where other trees might fail.
Deer Resistance: High. Deep rarely browse on the needles of Loblolly Pines, though they might rub their antlers on the trunks of younger trees.
Loblolly Pines are highly flammable due to their resin content. It is important to keep in mind that they are prone to wildfires. It is generally recommended to plant them at least 30 feet from your home or other structures.
